Wolle wickeln - Wool winding

I just wound my yarn that I'll take with me to the class in Simmern. A good time to show you my constructions to wind wool.

This very old yarn swift I got on Ebay for 1 € - it was declared as "wool winding thing" which is one word in German. I had to pay shipping as well, that was more expensive :).
The swift is permanently fixed to my cat scartching tree no1.

On the other side of my living room there is another large cat tree. This one is for my two wool winders, and the cats as well :).

When I wind yarn, the wool stretches right across my room, thoroughly watched by Clarence.

Depending on the yarn, I choose one of two wool winders.
This is a 30 years old Brother winder. It works very smooth and doesn't stretch the yarn too much, and you can wind very fast.
But it doesn't make nice balls.
And you have to pay attention very carefully that no yarn end enters the open mechanics. To get yarn out between the gears takes hours with scissors and tweezers .....

Number 2 is a "modern" wool winder. The mechanical parts are closed, so no yarn can get in between the gears. It makes beautiful round cakes of wool that you can easily pile.
BUT: as soon as you wind a bit faster and the yarn gets a little bit stuck, the cone end flies off. So you have to wind very very slowly and keep on looking whether the cone is still fixed .......

While I wound my yarn, my furry noses enjoyed the wonderful sunshine.

Meine Filztasche durfte draußen weiter trocknen.

My felted bag could dry on outside.
